FAQ List
What is the Wavelength Game online?▼
The Wavelength Game online is a free, browser-based adaptation of the popular party game Wavelength. It's a telepathic game where one player (the Psychic) gives a clue to help others guess the position of a hidden target on a spectrum between two opposing concepts. For example, if the spectrum is 'Hot' to 'Cold' and the target is near 'Hot', the Psychic might give the clue 'Coffee' to hint at the position.
How many players can play the Wavelength Game?▼
The Wavelength Game online supports 2 to 20 players. In Classic Mode, 2 players take turns being the Psychic and Guesser. In Party Mode, players are divided into two teams (2-10 players per team) that compete against each other.
Is the Wavelength Game free to play online?▼
Yes! The Wavelength Game is free to start playing online. There are no downloads required and no registration needed. Simply share a link with your friends and start playing instantly in your web browser. Optional premium features are available.
How does scoring work in Wavelength?▼
Points are awarded based on how close the guess is to the center of the hidden target zone: 4 points for a perfect bullseye (dead center), 3 points for a near miss (within the target zone), 2 points for getting close (edge of the target), and 0 points if you miss the target entirely.
What devices can I play Wavelength on?▼
Wavelength Online works on any device with a modern web browser - including smartphones, tablets, laptops, and desktop computers. The game is fully responsive and optimized for both touch and mouse input.
Do I need to create an account to play?▼
No account or registration is required. You can start playing immediately by creating a room and sharing the room code with your friends. Your game progress is saved automatically for the duration of your session.
What is the role of the Psychic?▼
The Psychic is the player who sees the hidden target location on the dial. Their job is to give a single clue (usually one word or short phrase) that helps their teammates guess where the target is positioned on the spectrum. The challenge is giving a clue that accurately represents the target's position between the two opposing concepts.
What makes a good clue in Wavelength?▼
A good clue clearly indicates the position on the spectrum. For example, if your spectrum is 'Good' to 'Evil' and the target is slightly toward 'Evil', you might say 'Politician' - something that's perceved as neither perfectly good nor completely evil. The best clues are ones where most people would agree on where they fall on the spectrum.
Can I play the Wavelength Game with remote friends?▼
Absolutely! The Wavelength Game online is designed for remote play. Create a room, share the room code or link with your friends no matter where they are, and everyone can join from their own device. The game synchronizes in real-time, so everyone sees the dial move as guesses are made.
How long does a game of Wavelength take?▼
A typical game of Wavelength takes 15-30 minutes, depending on the number of rounds you choose to play. Each round takes about 2-3 minutes. You can customize the number of rounds when setting up your game.
Is this the official Wavelength game?▼
No, the Wavelength Game online is a fan-made digital adaptation. It's inspired by the award-winning physical board game Wavelength designed by Wolfgang Warsch, Alex Hague, and Justin Vickers. We encourage everyone to support the original creators by purchasing the physical board game!
